Valentine’s Day press releases raise newsroom smiles

Press releases issued with an eye to Valentine’s Day tomorrow have been raising smiles among newspaper staff.

Public bodies have been taking advantage of the annual romance-fest to issue warnings about the dangers of unattended candles and unprotected sex.

Medway Maritime Hospital sent out a press release to the local Medway Messenger eye-catchingly headed ‘Card? Present? Condom?’

It warned suggested that Valentine’s Day was the perfect opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of safe sex by knowing what contraceptive options are available to them.

They quote a doctor as saying ‘it’s easy to get carried away with the romance of the occasion,’ before warning about the risk of catching sexually transmitted infections.

Meanwhile Kent Fire Service’s ‘Make Sure Your Valentine’s night is red hot for the right reason’ release reminds couples to make sure it’s only the flames of passion that are burning tomorrow night.

It warns “don’t leave candles unattended during a romantic night in” and “don’t get distracted or drink too much alcohol when cooking your loved one a special meal.”

“Several key ingredients could result in a recipe for disaster, making the difference between a romantic gesture going wrong and leading to an unexpected household blaze,” it says.
