Second ‘bulky’ weekly splits in two

A second Northcliffe Media-owned weekly that made the switched from daily publication last year has decided to split itself in two after complaints that it was ‘too bulky.’

The Scunthorpe Telegraph has launched Telegraph 2, a pull-out containing property and motors.

It follows on from the launch of Echo 2 by the Lincolnshire Echo which was also split into two sections following feedback from readers that it took too long to read.

The Telegraph changed to a 140-page weekly newspaper in August 2011 shortly before the Echo moved to the new format.

Telegraph editor David Atkin said: “Since we turned weekly in August we have had some comments that the newspaper is too bulky.

“Telegraph 2 lets us house all our supplements in the middle of the paper and allows readers to pull them all out together in one convenient section.”

The change aims to improved navigation around the publication so readers can find what they are looking for more easily.

Here’s a good idea. Why not produce one paper each night to avoid the big bulky paper?
