Scottish daily The Herald has increased its cover price to £1.10 due to “significant increases” in production costs.
The increase affects its Monday-Friday editions which previously sold for £1 on the newsstands, while the Sunday Herald is understood to be keeping its price at £1.30.
The Herald price rise was announced to readers by the Newsquest title on Monday, which said it was “due to significant increases in production costs.”
It said: “But as the country enters unprecedented times, The Herald will continue to offer our readers the best value for money in Scotland.”
Earlier this month, The Herald’s Edinburgh-based rival The Scotsman also raised its cover price to £1.10.
IF it’s really down to production costs can’t blame them.
Newspapers are still producing most of the ad income for companies (web income is a very small fraction despite growing number of hits) so need to get money to subsidise web operation for a few years.
