Reporter’s half marathon raises funds for hospice

A weekly newspaper reporter has raised more than £300 for a local charity raising funds to build a children’s hospice after completing a half marathon.

Richard Cutcher, a reporter at the Royal Borough Observer, took part in the Windsor Half Marathon earlier this month to raise money for the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.

He raised £325 by carrying out the run, which he completed in just under two hours.

Richard decided to carry out the run to support a team led by Fiona Devine, who set up the charity with husband John after the death of their eight-year-old son Alexander from a brain tumour in 2006, with it raising £1.5m so far towards Berkshire’s first children’s hospice.

Said Richard: “When I heard Fiona was running the half marathon to raise money for her son’s charity, I was inspired to join her and her team.

“It is a tough course and very hilly, but I really enjoyed the day and I was pretty happy with my time by the end. I received a lot of support from my editor Sally Stevens who covered the event editorially for me so I could just concentrate on the race. That was much appreciated.

“The run was a great way to help raise the profile of Alexander Devine across all our titles and my colleagues and contacts across the Windsor and Maidenhead community were very generous in donating.”
