Relaunch for award-winning entertainments website

Award-winning local entertainments website SoGlos.com has relaunched with a new design aimed at giving the look and feel of a “quality magazine.”

The Gloucestershire-based site, launched in 2007, has since gained an audience of 82,000 monthly users as well as winning the EDF Energy South West website of the year award in 2010.

In its first major revamp in five years, it has now added dediated channels covering food, drink, hotels, comedy and culture in addition to its existing sections.

And its founders are now exploring the possibility of launching companion sites in Bristol, Cardiff and even Manchester.

Deputy editor James Fryer said: “We spent a significant amount of time examining media websites the world over to see what they were doing well, and not so well, before coming up with a site we believe is unparalleled in both style and substance.

“We’re often asked if there’s a SoBristol, SoManchester or SoCardiff on the horizon.  It’s something we’re now finally in a position to explore, whether we do it ourselves or by working in partnership with a large publisher – we think it would be a great fit.”

Other new features include an improved interactive map, which uses the latest Google Maps v3 and Street View functionality.

And the events finder and venue finder provide quick and easy access to a selection of arts and entertainment events taking place in Gloucestershire.

The site, which is funded by display advertising, sponsorship and enhanced listings, now employs four staff.

As well as 82,000 unique users a month it also claims 22,000 subscribers to its email bulletin.
