Regional daily chief sub moves on after 11 years

The chief sub-editor at Staffordshire daily The Sentinel has moved on after more than a decade with the title.

Richard Bramwell joined the Northcliffe-owned daily in 2001 and has remained there since save for a seven-month break at the Manchester Evening News.

His editor Mike Sassi described him as a “tremendous servant” to the Sentinel and an “exceptional manager was was hugely popular right across the company.”

Richard and his partner are moving to Liverpool where, he tweeted last week, he has “one or two irons in the fire.”

How, in 2012, can anyone possibly describe a colleague as “a servant” of the company? It merely backs up my mental image of the Sentinel as a Victorian workhouse.
