Regional daily appoints new advertisement director

A regional daily newspaper has announced the appointment of a new advertisement director.

Richard Carey will join the Derby Telegraph Media Group on 17 September, marking a return to Northcliffe Media for the former advertisement director of the Leicester Mercury Group and commercial director of Northcliffe Electronic Publishing.

Richard has more recently served as publishing director of Staffordshire Newspapers in Burton, commercial director of East Midlands Newspapers in Peterborough and for the last two years has been business development director with Newsco Insider at Birmingham.

The new position at the Telegraph was created after former editor Steve Hall was promoted to managing director earlier this month, succeeding Michelle Gesell, who moved to sister title the Stoke Sentinel, while deputy editor Neil White became editor.

Steve said: “I am delighted to be adding such an experienced commercial operator to an already talented advertising team.

“Richard has an impressive history of leadership and achievement in regional newspapers but can also boast a successful track record in digital, events and B2B – areas that we see as important drivers of growth for our business over the next few years.”
