Newspaper sponsors award for anti-smoking film

A weekly newspaper is supporting a campaign to prevent youngsters from taking up smoking which was launched in the name of a journalist who died from lung cancer aged 49.

The Islington Gazette is backing the Deborah Hutton Campaign. Deborah was health editor of Vogue for more than 25 years, and the charity is aimed at making young people think twice about smoking and to consider the consequences to their health later in life.

Gazette reporter Jon Dean gave up smoking for seven days in support of the campaign, and the newspaper’s publisher Archant London is sponsoring an award in a competition aimed at getting youngsters to make anti-smoking films.
