Newspaper sells on eBay for 32 times its original price

A souvenir edition of the Manchester Evening News celebrating Manchester City’s premiership title win is being sold on eBay for 32 times its original price.

The Trinity Mirror-owned daily increased its print run by 45,000 copies on Monday following the Blues’ triumph, on top of its normal daily sale of around 84,000.

But such has been the demand for the special edition – originally sold at 50p in the shops – that one copy has now attracted a bid of up to £16 on the online auction site.

Three other people remain in the bidding, so the final sale price could go even higher.

The special edition contained 26 pages of action and reaction after City’s breathtaking title win – the club’s first in 44 years.

Editor Rob Irvine said:  “Manchester City fans around the world will want to get their hands on this edition of the Manchester Evening News. It’s a paper to keep and show your grand kids.”

In putting together the souvenir special on Sunday night, the  MEN team already knew the paper would become a collector’s item.

Describing the evening, sports reporter Richard Partington wrote:  “It’s important we get every last detail right – Blues supporters will cherish these pages and keep them as souvenirs for decades.”

What makes me laugh about all this is that all the media coverage keeps going on about fans who can’t remember the last time their team won anything of note.

    And this a *big* club.

    Dream on!

Dave clearly has no understanding of what makes a ‘big’ club – a large and loyal fan base who support it win or lose (regardless of any trophies).
Is he a glory-seeking Man U fan from London perhaps? If so, he ought to think about switching allegiances as the balance of power has shifted.
And no, I’m not a City fan but I am sure am pleased that they won.

Shame all the pictures where probably taken by PA and Getty after the MEN decided to make all their own togs redundant a few years back…

City a big club? Dream on.
What else have they won in the past 40 years? One cup perhaps.
Now thanks to arab money they think they own the league.
Along the lines of one swallow and summer… it’s only on loan for a year.
The facts don’t lie – Utd are the biggest club in the world – and no amount of oil money will change that.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two biggest clubs in the world. United are probably a good third. City are not even in the top 20.

Curious, that’s very sporting of you – nice that you get pleasure from disliking a team rather than liking one!

For the record I have no interest in either of these teams winning anything at all, but I do enjoy a nailbiter of an ending.

Yes Dave, I’m like most people and detest the glory-hunters that Man U attract.
Now address your ‘big club’ views that you’ve carefully chosen to overlook. Define what you think makes a ‘big club’ – for the benefit of us all.
