New Scotsman editor to stay at helm of Sunday title

The newly-appointed editor of The Scotsman will remain at the helm of sister title Scotland on Sunday, it has been revealed.

Ian Stewart was appointed to lead Johnston Press’ flagship daily earlier this month after the previous editor John McLellan was axed in a shake-up earlier this year.

Ian was editor of Scotland on Sunday when the announcement was made and it has now emerged that he will remain in that role, so will edit both titles.

Andrew Richardson, managing director of Johnston Press Scotland, said: “Ian is the right person and he is doing a good job.”

Kenny Farquharson will remain as deputy editor at the Sunday title and the senior assistant editor of The Scotsman, Peter MacMahon, has stepped up to become the deputy editor at the title.

Ian first joined The Scotsman 1991 as night news editor and has spent the majority of his career with the three Scotsman Publications titles.

The “flagship daily”! It doesn’t really mean much when the rest of the Johnston fleet is being scuttled on the rocks.
