Michael Short has stepped down as news editor of the Bolton News after three and a half years and left the Newsquest-owned title.

His replacement will be Jane Lavender, previously deputy news editor.

The changes, which will also see crime reporter Julian Thorpe step up to the deputy newsdesk role, were announced by editor-in-chief Ian Savage.

He said:  “I am delighted to announce these two well deserved promotions in our editorial department. I am sure that both Jane and Julian will work as hard as ever in their new roles and I wish them all the best.”
