New editor appointed at Evening Standard

Sarah Sands has been appointed as editor of the London Evening Standard.

The newspaper’s former deputy editor takes over from Geordie Greig who last month announced his departure to the Mail on Sunday.

Ian Walker has been promoted to senior deputy editor and will edit the paper in Sarah’s absence. Other promotions involve Charlotte Ross also to a deputy editor position and Amy Iggulden, promoted to assistant editor news.

Evgeny Lebedev, chairman of Evening Standard Limited, said: “The Evening Standard grows ever stronger and has never been more popular or influential in my lifetime. I am confident that Sarah and her outstanding team will capitalise on London’s historic year to create the next chapter in one of the great newspaper success stories of recent times.”
