Echo leads way as media awards shortlist announced

The shortlist for the EDF Energy London and South of England Media Awards 2012 has been announced.

The annual awards, held in association with HoldtheFrontPage, are due to be handed out at a lunchtime ceremony in Brighton on Thursday 1 November.

Leading the way with 12 nominations is the Southern Daily Echo followed by The Argus, Brighton and ITV Meridian with six apiece and The News, Portsmouth, with five.

The Echo and The News will compete for the prestigious Daily Newspaper of the Year prize in a three-way contest with the Dorset Echo.

All those shortlisted will be invited to the ceremony at Brighton’s Amex Stadium, held courtesy of EDF Energy, where individual award winners will receive a £100 cheque, as well as a certificate and trophy.

The shortlist was drawn up by seven-person judging panel, which met on in Bristol on Thursday 20 September

It included Andy Phelan, editor of Exeter’s Express and Echo, Philip Bowen, assistant editor at the Western Morning News, Belinda Bennett, editor at the Midweek Herald, Robin Markwell, radio correspondent at BBC Radio Bristol, Matthew Hill, TV presenter at BBC West, Simon Galloway, group picture editor at Bristol News and Media and Dan Pritchard, EDF Energy regional media manager.
