Journalism school appoints new head

A journalism school has appointed a new head who will work closely with a regional daily to launch a local TV station.

Carole Fleming, left, has been promoted to lead the Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism at Nottingham Trent University after initially joining the university as a lecturer in 1995.

She started her journalism career in local newspapers then moved into radio, working for both the BBC and local radio stations including BBC Radio Sheffield and Metro Radio in Newcastle as a reporter and producer.

In her role, she will be involved with a new local TV channel for Nottingham, Notts TV, which will be based at the university and is set to launch in 2014 in partnership with the Nottingham Post, Confetti Media and Inclusive Digital.

Said Carole: “The CBJ already has a first-rate reputation across the industry for journalism graduates and I hope to be able to consolidate this and build closer links with industry partners.

“The involvement of the Nottingham Post in local television means the new station will be relevant not only to broadcast but also to print students.”
