Hunt begins for region’s top journalism talent

The hunt has begun for the cream of journalism talent in Yorkshire and the Humber as the region’s O2 Awards enter their fourth year.

First established in 2009, the 2012 contest sees the introduction of three new awards designed to mark the changing nature of the industry.

The new categories will cover multimedia journalism and specialist publications and there will also be an Emerging Talent Award to recognise the skills of up and coming student journalists.

The competition remains free-to-enter with a presentation evening to be held at The Northern Ballet Theatre in Leeds on 18 July.

The 16 categories are designed to recognise achievement across the industry ranging from young journalists starting out on their careers through to those who in the opinion of their peers have made an outstanding contribution.

Deadline for entry nominations is 10 May and entry forms can be requested from [email protected]

Nicola Green, Head of Communications at O2, said:  “This promises to be a landmark year for the country with the London 2012 Olympics.

“We hope the media awards event will be just as memorable for all those associated with journalism across the Yorkshire and the Humber region. We are delighted that the awards are growing and raising standards each year.”
