Handbooks designed to help journalists tackle religion

A freelance journalist is launching a series of handbooks designed to help journalists tackle the subject of religion later this month.

Jenny Taylor says the guides – Handy Books on Religion in World Affairs – aim to simplify aspects of different faiths which are regularly misreported.

The first of the series tackles the Tablighi Jamaat, a global Islamic missionary group which newspapers have often linked to terrorist outrages.

It will be launched at the Frontline Club in London on September 27 and will include a debate between Muslim commentator Ziauddin Sardar and BBC World Update presenter Dan Damon.

Future topics to be covered by the book series include martyrdom, witchcraft, religious persecution, and religion and gender within Christianity, Hinduism and Islam.
