Editor to take on 50-mile charity cycle ride

A weekly newspaper editor and one of his reporters are preparing to embark on a 50-mile cycle ride this weekend to raise funds for a local hospice.

The Derbyshire Times has organised the Flagg Challenge event this Sunday (22 Jul) with Polaris, a local cycle clothing company to support Chesterfield’s Ashgate Hospice.

Editor James Mitchinson will be taking part in the even along with reporter Jon Cooper and the Johnston Press title is making a contribution to their fundraising effort.

The event will start at the hospice and take in picturesque Peak District scenery as it journeys to Flagg then back to the hospice.

James said: “The hospice does such a fantastic job and touches so many people’s lives that we have been delighted to join forces with Polaris, of Dronfield, to give cyclists an opportunity to support them.”

Those taking part will be given a Polaris bikewear goody bag and the top three fundraisers will receive gift vouchers for the company.
