Devon weekly editor is ‘woman of the future’

A recently-appointed weekly newspaper editor has been nominated as a ‘woman of the future’ in a set of national awards.

Chloe Hubbard,  left, who took over the editorship of the North Devon Journal earlier this year, has been shortlisted for the accolade in the annual awards organised by Caspian Media.

She will compete in the arts, media and culture section against five other shortlisted candidates including two TV journalists and a museum curator.

The awards, now in their seventh year, aim to celebrate the achievements of women and create role models for the next generation.

Said Chloe:  “I’m thrilled to be flying the flag for the regional press in this category alongside some incredibly impressive women from the national media and arts sectors.

“The regional media has a bright future and I am pleased the judges at the Women of the Future Awards have recognised this.

“The North Devon Journal is a newspaper for the future that will be around both online and in print for many, many years.

“I’d like to thank my employers, Northcliffe, for being a forward-thinking company and investing in a younger person to lead one of their most successful teams. It shows the newspaper industry can still provide a fantastic career for graduates and young people.”

Chloe said she was nominated for the award by a colleague but has declined to reveal his or her name.

Other shortlisted candidates in the Arts, Media and Culture category are:  Katie Lloyd, deputy chief executive & creative media director of the Media Trust, Sarah Outen MBE, adventurer, Dr Frances Parton, assistant curator of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Kate Quilton, multiplatform commissioning editor for Channel 4, and Sonali Shah BBC sport presenter.
