Daily title publishes top 100 tweeters in Scotland

Scotland daily The Herald has published an online list of what it claims are the top 100 tweeters in Scotland.

The paper has analysed the Twitter accounts of individuals across 10 sectors, including literature, sport and comedy, and found the most popular 10 people in each, which has been published on its website HeraldScotland.

Topping its list is Pete Cashmore, the founder of the Mashable social media news blog, with nearly 3m followers, then Glasgow-born US TV host Craig Ferguson and author JK Rowling – who both have more than 1m followers.

Calum Macdonald, digital editor of HeraldScotland, said: “This survey tells us a lot about how Scots are using Twitter – both as tweeters and as followers. Yes, celebrities dominate certain fields, but there are a lot of surprises in the Top 100, which suggests some individuals are pushing the medium to the maximum.

“Our list is intended to be indicative rather than definitive, but people are already talking about it and we’ll definitely be updating it later this year.”
