A weekly newspaper will celebrate its 75th anniversary by holding a free music concert for its readers.

The Scunthorpe Telegraph will host its ‘Birthday Bash’ next month to mark the milestone and has signed up boy band Lawson to perform.

The concert on 20 July will take place at 1,800 capacity venue the Baths Hall and the paper, which switched from daily to weekly publication last year, has also joined forces with Lincs FM for the occasion.

Having confirmed Lawson will perform at the event, the title is set to announce further acts in the coming weeks.

Editor David Atkin told readers: “Our 75th anniversary is a cause for great celebration and we’re delighted to be teaming up with Lincs FM and the Baths Hall to throw a Birthday Bash for the community.

“It will be a family event, with a variety of music acts performing on the night, so keep a look-out in the Telegraph over the next few weeks to see who else will join Lawson in the line-up and to learn how you can win free tickets to the show.”

Lawson have just completed a sell-out UK tour and their debut single, When She Was Mine, has reached number four in the charts.

Eddie Shaw, group head of music at Lincs FM, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, said: “Lawson are definitely the UK’s hottest new band of the year and I can’t wait to see them sing live in Scunthorpe. I’m sure all their growing army of fans will absolutely love their performance.”
