Not such a mystery after all, then

The Belper News excelled itself in the funnies’ stakes with its launch of a new ‘mystery photograph’ feature designed to test readers’ knowledge of their local patch.

Anyone wanting to know the location of the church bell-tower depicted need only read the photo file name underneath.

That was funny enough, but to find that the newspaper then promises to “reveal where it is next week” right underneath the said file name….well, what can we say?

This cock-up is so typical of how the standards have dropped at the Belper News. It is now nothing but a joke and a general embarrassment to the town. The levels of grammar, punctuation and syntax are those I would expect from a Year 8 schoolchild. It appears more time is spent trying to include the maximum number of puns in the headline and body of an article than on its factual accuracy.

I have read this newspaper for nigh on 45 years but I really think it is time it was closed down unless the standards improve.
