Weekly issues correction over court report

A complaint about a court report in a weekly newspaper has been resolved by the Press Complaints Commission.

Johnston Press title the Dunstable Gazette published a correction and apology after reader Lisa Brinkley complained that the report about her brother’s sentencing contained inaccuracies.

It read: “Our article ”Tragic dealers used their own supply of drugs’ (9 February) reported that Andrew Cawthorne was one of two individuals sentenced for possession of drugs with intent to supply.

“We have been asked to make clear that while Mr Cawthorne pled guilty to his charge and was subsequently convicted, he tested negative for drugs use following his arrest. We are happy to clarify this point and apologise for any misunderstanding.”
