Union launches new website for LGBT members

The National Union of Journalists has launched a new website to highlight issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members.

The NUJ Pride website is designed to provide “a new forum which celebrates and supports the union’s LGBT members, providing a safe place for members to discuss issues which impact on their professional lives.”

General secretary-elect Michelle Stanistreet said: “Our aim through this initiative is to counter all forms of discrimination relating to LGBT members.

“Whether in newsrooms or working as freelances, or as student journalists, we want journalists who feel discriminated against as a result of their sexual orientation or trans status to know that they have the support of
their union.”
