TV rivals team up for regional media awards gala

Presenters from rival TV stations BBC East and ITV Anglia are coming together to co-present the EDF Energy East of England Media Awards next month.

The awards, held in association with HoldtheFrontPage, aim to celebrate the best press and broadcast journalism across the region.

The ceremony is being held at Trinity Park in Ipswich on Thursday 3 February with all shortlisted entrants on the guest list.

ITV Anglia presenter Jonathan Wills will take to the stage to compere the event alongside former BBC Look East presenter Carol Bundock.

Carol joined the BBC in 1989, starting her media career at BBC Radio Norfolk. For 15 years she worked as a presenter and reporter for BBC Look East, before going freelance last year.

Jonathan has been at ITV Anglia since 2007, presenting the main evening news programme Anglia Tonight. A Royal Television Society ‘Presenter of The Year’ Award winner, Jonathan previously worked for ITN, where he was best known for presenting the sports section of the ITV News and fronting the regional London Soccer Night programme for ITV London.

Said Jonathan: “We’ve never worked together on an event like this before, so we’re really looking forward to it. Hopefully we’ll bring the best of ITV Anglia and BBC East to the occasion.”

Added Carol: “I’m delighted that EDF Energy continues to recognise the importance of quality regional journalism – which clearly remains strong in the region. I’m sure it will be a great event.”

Shortlists for the newspaper and broadcast categories have already been announced for the awards, now in their sixth year. They include daily and weekly newspaper, front page, print journalist, newcomer, television and radio journalist, radio and TV news programmes of the year.
