Seminar will enhance digital journalism skills

A one-day seminar on integrating digital journalism skills into training will be held in October.

Being run by The National Council for the Training of Journalists, the seminar will take place on 20 October at Press Association in London. It will include a mix of editors, journalists and trainers who are at the forefront of digital journalism developments.

The seminar is designed for those responsible for teaching multimedia reporting skills on NCTJ-accredited courses. It will include digital journalism techniques for getting the story first and breaking the news, as well as gaining an appreciation of pictures and graphics.

Delegates will also be encouraged to share their own practice and experience and the information will also be useful for anyone that needs to improve their knowledge of digital journalism.

Subjects covered on the day will include how to train students and trainees in newsgathering using digital and social media. It will also include media law developments related to digital media including copyright and privacy for user generated content and social networks.

Online journalism is really not rocket science. Get the story, use your judgement then display/ disseminate it using the technology you’ve got at hand. And do not spam people, Ever. Also, look at the way the big players do it. Why people are so scared of ‘digital journalism’ is beyond me. There are no real rules, just good journalism and good judgement. More ways of getting the gullible to fork out, methinks.

Spot on Harold. What’s essential is a SIMPLE 100 per cent RELIABLE uploading system that can be accessed easily remotely and that doesn’t need 50 clicks and then a 15-minute wait for something to appear. Anyone got one?
(And of course a website that doesn’t make the viewers eyes ache.)
