Regional Press Awards shortlist is published

The shortlist for the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards is published today.

More than 150 of the 750-plus entrants have been shortlisted for the awards, held in association with the Newspaper Society, HoldtheFrontPage and the Press Association.

Judges will debate the shortlist in preparation for the announcement of the winners at a lunchtime awards ceremony at London’s Park Plaza Riverbank on 11 May.

The judging panel includes independent figures from across the industry chaired by editorial consultant Peter Sands.

Bob Satchwell, executive director of the Society of Editors, said today: “The judges faced a formidable task and the rare privilege of reading thousands of words gathered together in brilliant entries that reflect the variety, vitality and sheer excellence of local and regional newspapers, which are of course the best in the world.

“In some cases the entries were so strong in quality as well as numbers that it was simply impossible to choose only six for each shortlist.”

Camelot has signed up as the main sponsor of the awards which are being organised on a not for profit basis with any surplus going to the Journalists’ Charity.

Attendance at the awards lunch will be at the special inclusive price of £70+VAT per person or £700+VAT per table to include a pre lunch drinks reception and wine with lunch. To book your place please contact Kate McMillan at the Society of Editors.
