Pub chat led to creation of hyperlocal site

A chat down the pub resulted in the launch of a hyperlocal blog focusing on an area of Cardiff.

RoathCardiff.net was launched on Friday and is a site containing local news and events from Roath, an area of the Welsh capital popular with students.

It is being run by a team of three people, Matt Appleby, Geraldine Nichols and Huw Thomas, who wanted to start a site for the community.

Said Matt: “Like many ideas, this one started in the pub. We were brought together originally by taking part in the 4am Project and had discussed the lack of a local site for Roath over a pint or two in the Albany pub.”

The team say the site will be publishing items whenever Roath makes the news, along with what residents of the area are up to and interesting events going on in and around the area.

Said Huw: “We’re planning to cover news from and about Roath, arts and culture, food and drink, reviews and features of Roath people.

“We have lots of guest posts already lined up and we’re hoping more people from the community will want to contribute as the blog grows.”

It will also contain some local history, pictures and is running a 4am project, which sees pictures taken by a group of residents who got up in the early hours of the morning to take photos of the town.

Ed Walker, formerly of website YourCardiff, was also on the original team before he moved to London.
