Political knowhow wins student cash prize

A journalism student has proved he knows his politics by excelling in a public affairs exam.

Danny Bell, who graduated from City College Brighton and Hove this summer, has won the National Council for The Training of Journalists’ Public Affairs Award for 2010-11.

Said Danny: “I am delighted to have won this year’s prize. The Public Affairs module was challenging and gave everyone in my class a thorough grounding in current affairs as well as local and central government. Karen Dugdale, our teacher, was first class.”

He received a certificate and a cheque for £250 sponsored by Oxford University Press, in recognition of his exceptional performance in the essential Public Affairs exam.

Danny, pictured above left, gained communications experience prior to taking the course working for an environmental NGO in Brussels.

It was this which inspired him to complete his NCTJ training after considering it for a quite a long time.

He has previously worked in the legal and financial services sectors and is now working as a researcher for The Legal 500.
