Weekly puts readers’ unclaimed photos on Facebook

Unclaimed readers’ photographs found in a newspaper office spring clean have been scanned and put on Facebook in a bid to re-unite them with their owners.

Staff at Archant titles the Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard came up with the idea after finding a package of photos during a tidy-up ahead of a move to a new office.

Editor John Elworthy scanned the photos and placed them on the Cambs Times Facebook page explaining to readers that the pictures had been put into envelopes ready for collection but no one had been for them.

Readers who recognise anyone in the pictures are being asked to call into the office to collect them.

How the Facebook page looks

Said John: “I suspect the photos pre-date 2000 and probably span a 20-year period prior to that.

“We’ve scanned all the photos and included them in this gallery.”

Around 120 photos of staff  at The Cambs Time from over the years have also been posted on the Facebook page as part of an online gallery.

Added John: “I found loads of them and thought it a novel idea to put them online. We’ve had several comments already- in fact I had to make a special hunt to find one photo of former reporter Louise Hughes dressed as superwoman. She emailed me to insist I included it.”

Lovely idea, and shows genuine care for the community which the paper serves. Fingers crossed for some heartwarming reunions (and lots of cute p3 stories off the back of it)
