‘Keep newspaper deliverers safe’ says NS

The Newspaper Society is launching a bid to improve safety for newspaper deliverers with the help of a new booklet and DVD guide.

Entitled ‘Delivering Newspapers Safely,’ it is being distributed to newsagents and publishers with the aim of encouraging “basic bike skills” amongst paper delivery agents.

Compiled in partnership with the National Federation of Retail Newsagents, the guide is the result of a wide-ranging consultation with all bodies involved in the newspaper delivery process.

Ten thousand booklets and 1,600 DVDs are being distributed to members of the NS and NFRN and are also being distributed by other bodies involved in the project.

NS communications director Lynne Anderson said: “The breadth of consultation involved in compiling this guide is unprecedented and as such has resulted in a document which comprehensively covers all the key issues surrounding newspaper delivery.

Kevin Clinton, head of road safety for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, added: “RoSPA very much welcomes this new guide which will help to ensure the safety and well being of the people who deliver our newspapers.”

They will be very safe indeed in a few years time, less a few quid each week.

Who is this guide aimed at? Paper delivery agents? Reading between the lines I think they may mean paper boys. To be fair my CV refers to a number of years spent as as ‘Local news distribution manager’.
