Journalism blogger has first book published

A journalism lecturer who recently conducted an experiment into blogging on Facebook has had his first book published.

Journalism blogger Paul Bradshaw has co-written Online Journalism Handbook: Skills to Survive and Thrive in the Digital Age, with journalist Liisa Rohumaa.

The title is available on Amazon and is the first book Paul has published under his name, although he has contributed to other books and ghost-wrote a book ten years ago.

Paul is reader in online journalism at Birmingham City University, and a visiting Professor at City University’s School of Journalism in London and has just completed a month long experiment into using Facebook as a platform for his blogs.

Now the experiment has come to an end Paul has decided to delegate back to his original website onlinejournalismblog.com as he felt there was little opportunity for long term traffic on Facebook.

In a blog about the outcome of the Facebook experiment Paul wrote: “There are too many drawbacks for most to move completely to Facebook. It simply leaves you too isolated, too ephemeral, and too vulnerable to changes in Facebook’s policies.”

Though he will post his main blogs on OJB he will still use Facebook for shorter posts, polls and links.

Since Facebook is not a blogging platform this isn’t really a surprise. What next – journalism professor advises against writing copy in Excel?
