Former journalist completes Tour de France event

A former weekly newspaper journalist has cycled several iconic Tour de France mountain passes to raise £970 for the Prostate Cancer charity

Ian Boydon, 33, a former journalist on Newsquest title the Westmorland Gazette in Cumbria  joined around 10,000 cyclists from around the world in the Etape du Tour event in the French Alps.

The event, which allows cycling fans to ride along an actual Tour de France stage route on roads closed to traffic, included climbs up the famous Col du Telegraph, the 2,645 metre-high Col du Galibier and the Alpe d’Huez.

Ian who took part in the race with friend Dave Mawdsley said the seven-hour ride was ‘a tough challenge but a rewarding experience.’

Ian now works as a senior account executive at Cumbrian PR firm Osprey Communications which sponsored him in the event
