Digital editors invited to event on social media

Digital editors from regional newspapers are invited to attend an event where executives from Facebook and The Independent will speak.

The Digital Editors’ Network will hold its spring meeting on 24 May where the best ways for newspapers to use social media will be discussed.

Leading the debate will be Karla Geci, strategic partner development for Facebook and former head of marketing for Bebo, who works with media companies on the best ways to integrate with Facebook.

Also speaking will be Jack Riley, head of digital audience and content development for The Independent , the i paper and the Evening Standard, who will talk about the innovative ways he has used Facebook’s features.

Organiser Nick Turner, who is digital strategy manager for regional publisher the CN Group, said: “Facebook, Twitter and other networks are becoming increasingly important to how we operate editorially and commercially and our line up of speakers should really help digital editors formulate an effective social media strategy.”

The free event is held in conjunction with the University of Central Lancashire’s journalism department on the afternoon of 24 May with registration and lunch from 1pm in Scholars Restaurant in Foster Building at the Preston City campus.
