Deadline approaches for diversity fund applications

Budding journalists have less than three weeks to apply to a fund which could pay their training fees.

The Journalism Diversity Fund is run by the National Council for the Training of Journalists to support those from ethnically or socially diverse backgrounds get into the industry.

Potential reporters and photographers who want to gain an NCTJ qualification but do not have the financial means to attend a course can apply to the fund by the next deadline of 29 April.

The scheme has so far given 101 students the chance to attend a course and past recipients are now working as trainees at local and national newspapers, as well as in radio and television broadcasting.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a commitment and potential to be a successful journalist and have either applied or been accepted on an NCTJ-accredited course starting between September 2011 and August 2012.
