A partnership between a weekly newspaper and a university has allowed a media student to gain a global audience by creating videos for the title’s website.

Student Dan Greaves has been on a placement one day a week with the Barnsley Chronicle since last September after a request by Ruth Stoker, senior journalism lecturer at the town’s Huddersfield University campus.

He has been responsible for much of the video content on the paper’s redesigned website, which had visits from 107 countries in the last month, and has helped teach journalists at the title techniques for using the camera and its software.

Dan said: “Working at the Chronicle has been a fantastic experience and has helped me learn more about the industry than I ever could in the classroom.”
