Belfast to host journalism skills conference

The year’s biggest journalism training conference will take place in Belfast later this year, it has been revealed.

The National Council for the Training of Journalists has announced details of its annual Journalism Skills Conference, which will round off the training body’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

It will take place in Belfast from 30 November to 1 December and will visit iconic locations in the city including the Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont and Belfast City Hall.

The programme will feature speakers from the world of politics and the media, while it will also celebrate the quality journalism training that exists in Northern Ireland.

NCTJ chief executive Joanne Butcher said: “We are thrilled to have received so much support from the leading media companies and journalism schools for staging the conference this year in Northern Ireland.

“It is a milestone year, not just for the NCTJ, but also for professional journalism training with Belfast Metropolitan College and North West Regional College joining the University of Ulster in delivering the new Diploma in Journalism from September. I’m sure it will be a memorable event.”

Further details about the conference will be announced in the coming weeks at nctj.com.
