BBC chooses replacement for new JP digital head

The BBC has announced the appointment of a replacement for an editor who is leaving to join Johnston Press.

It has named its digital journalist Chris Hamilton as the new social media editor for BBC News, who will take up the role in June.

He has been chosen for the role to replace Alex Gubbay who will become JP’s new head of digital content, where he will play a key role in developing the publisher’s websites.

The broadcaster said Chris would co-ordinate the work of correspondents and reporters who use social media tools to ensure best practice was developed.
