Awards deadline extended after late surge jams mailbox

North-East journalists have been given an extra week to get their entries in for the region’s premier press awards after a late surge caused the organisers’ mailbox to jam.

Entries for the 30th Tom Cordner North-East Press Awards had been due to close last Friday but will now be extended until Friday 25 November.

Organisers have logged more than 150 entries from across the region, from Northumberland to North Yorkshire, but a late scramble caused several entries to bounce back to senders.

Awards secretary Keith Seacroft said: “There has been terrific interest and we have already nearly matched last year’s haul of 171 entries, but this is a special year, the 30th Cordner Awards, so we don’t want anyone feeling thwarted by the email logjam.”

Organisers have now set up a second email address to make more space. Entrants for Page Design and Splash Subbing, Features, Sport and Trainee Journalist Awards should now enter via [email protected]

All other categories should use the original [email protected]
