A small rural Scottish weekly newspaper is being given a make-over as part of its 125th anniversary.
The Argyllshire Advertiser, which is based in Lochgilphead, Argyll and Bute has seen a number of changes in its content to make it more distinctive.
This will include its traditional red masthead being changed to blue.
Historically, the paper, part of Wyvex Media Ltd, has been closely aligned to its sister paper the Campbeltown Courier but the decision was made to separate the titles completely.
This has resulted in more local news and features, more local sport and more offers and competitions in both titles.
Deputy editor Stuart Laundy said: “The changes we have made to the content of both the Advertiser and Courier seem to have gone down well with readers of both titles.
“Making them both stand- alone titles has allowed each to expand its coverage of local issues, districts and sports coverage in particular.
“This is a special year for the Advertiser and the changes we have made, plus the introduction of a new look will highlight the fact that readers in Mid Argyll now have a dedicated title which puts them at the heart of everything the paper does.”
The new look paper, which has a current circulation of 2,994 and a cover price of 77p, will be launched on Friday.
Wyvex Media Ltd operates four weekly newspapers in the west of Scotland, as well as nine magazines and a stream of websites.
77p is a bizarre cover price, isn’t it? 75p or 80p would make much more sense, both for retailers and purchasers (yes, including the stereotyped, careful-with-the-pennies folk of mid Argyll).
