Worldwide young reporter contest launched

A young reporter will get the chance to travel to conflict-affected parts of the world as part of the prize in a new writing competition.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is launching the contest worldwide to give 18-25-year-olds the chance to understand the effects of conflict.

The four best entries will win a one-week mission to ICRC delegations in Georgia, Lebanon, Liberia or the Philippines where they will interview young people affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence.

Each winner will write up a report to be presented at a World Red Cross Red Crescent Day in Geneva on 8 May.

“This is a golden opportunity for some talented young adults to discover a new culture, challenge their perceptions, exchange views on important topics and give a voice to other youths,” said Nicole Martins-Maag, head of the ICRC’s youth project.
