Weekly saves snow-hit wedding with 4×4 rescue

A couple’s plans to renew their wedding vows were saved by a local newspaper group after they were nearly scuppered due to the recent bad weather.

Sally and Graeme Kennaird, from Barming in Kent, had planned to renew their 27-year marriage but the Rolls Royce they had hired for the day was pulled out at the last minute by a local car firm because of the snow.

The bride’s sister phoned the Kent Messenger and begged for help – which duly arrived in the shape of a 4×4 Land Rover owned by its newspaper sales department (pictured below.)

Meanwhile, Oli Kemp, presenter at the paper’s sister radio station kmfm, braved the cold conditions to chauffeur Mrs Kennaird to the church.

She said: “I was in tears thinking it all wasn’t going to happen. Everyone was texting and calling to see if it was still on.

“My sister contacted the Kent Messenger and I’m just so grateful they decided to help us make it go ahead.”

Sally and Graeme were originally married 27 years ago but had little money so couldn’t have the white wedding they’d dreamed of therefore decided to renew their vows and began planning the big day last year.

They managed to track down the priest who performed their original wedding, and who agreed to perform the ceremony again, as well as booking the church for exact date they were married first time.

KM editor Bob Bounds said: “When we got the call at our office we sprung into action to help this bride in distress.

“Amid the chaos of the wintry weather it was nice to put a smile on the faces of our readers and listeners and save the day for this couple.”

No wonder their newspapers are so dull if they are off galavanting in the snow like this.
My drain is blocked..will they come around and help me clear it?
