Weekly chief reporter up for young journalist award

A chief reporter at a weekly newspaper has been shortlisted for a national journalism award.

Inderdeep Bains, from the Slough and Windsor Observer, could be named the Young Journalist of the Year at the GG2 Leadership and Diversity Awards, which take place tomorrow.

She has been selected as one of just three finalists for the category for a portfolio of exclusive stories written for the paper.

The awards are held to celebrate the achievements of people from ethnic minorities and are sponsored by the Daily Mail.

Inderdeep, 26, said: “I was delighted to find out that I was in the finals and am very much looking forward to the awards’ night. It will be a great experience whatever the result.”

The awards are now in their 12th year and the ceremony will be held at the Westminster Park Plaza.

Earlier this year, Inderdeep offered a Valentine’s date with her as a prize for a lucky reader who donated money to the Haiti earthquake relief effort, which raised more than £500.
