University joins Mail in training partnership

A university has set up a new £10,000 journalism scholarship in partnership with the Daily Mail.

The University of Kent’s Centre for Journalism will offer those who secure places on its MA in Multimedia Journalism a chance to compete for the Daily Mail scholarship, which will be launched next year.

Under the contest, all applicants for the postgraduate course will be asked to submit a proposal then write a story that would fit the Daily Mail’s style.

The winner will have their annual tuition fees covered by the scholarship, which is worth £10,000 a year, and will also have a work placement at the national newspaper.

Professor Tim Luckhurst, head of the centre for journalism, said: “This is a huge opportunity for a postgraduate journalism student to have their tuition fees covered on this premium course by the Daily Mail.

“The successful postgraduate will be ideally placed, through our MA course and the work placement, to learn about the demands of working at the very top level of modern multimedia journalism in print and online.”

Applicants to the course will have chance to enter the contest from next spring and the winner will be announced after students join the course next autumn.
