The Belfast Telegraph scooped a trio of awards at a prestigious awards ceremony recognising journalists from Northern Ireland.
It won the coveted newspaper of the year title, while the Irish News also gained awards at Northern Ireland’s CIPR Press and Broadcast Awards.
Claire McNeilly from the Telegraph was named both newcomer and specialist journalist of the year.
And those who were awarded from the Irish News were Brendan Crossan who won sports journalist of the year, Gary McDonald for business journalist of the year and Jeremy Kirker for the newspaper production journalist award.
The ceremony took place in Belfast on Friday and Belfast Telegraph editor Mike Gilson said the newspaper’s ‘outstanding level of journalism’ had been recognised.
He said: “The Belfast Telegraph strives every day to produce stories which make the difference to the lives of people across Northern Ireland and will continue to do so.”
At the ceremony, special awards were also made – with the lifetime achievement award presented to the News Letter’s former deputy editor Billy Kennedy, for 40 years of work at the daily paper.
