Rousing send-off for press photography tutor

Press photographers from far and wide turned out to give a legendary photojouralism lecturer a rousing send-off.

Paul Delmar stepped down as head of the press photography and photojournalism course at Norton College, Sheffield, earlier this year.

Around 100 of his former students gathered at the George and Dragon pub in Mosborough, Sheffield for a retirement bash organised via Facebook.

Messages of congratulations from those unable to attend included one from the doyen of royal photographers, The Sun’s Arthur Edwards.

Said Paul: “It was an incredible evening. Every person was a surprise, but I did remember all the names fortunately.

“It’s a great busines and it’s been worth every minute.”

Organiser Eddie Keogh added: “Bearing in mind these photographers live all over the UK and abroad, it was a fantastic show of respect.

“For my part I don’t know of a person who has had such an influence on the photographic talent we have working in press photography in the UK. He has been an inspiration to so many young photographers and I believe he still will be in the years to come.”

With all the snappers present at this bash, couldn’t somebody have managed to take a decent snap?

Unfair and uncalled-for. That pic of Paul captures the man down to the ground!

Paul is a legend and while the course is continuing, he will be irreplaceable. Good luck to him!
