Regional journalists take on 10k challenge

A group of journalists are taking on the challenge of a 10k run this weekend to raise funds for charity.

The team of 11 from the Newsquest-owned Lancashire Telegraph will take part in the first Jane Tomlinson Pennine Lancashire 10k run on Sunday.

They hope to raise around £500 for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal which supports children’s and cancer charities and was set up by the late fundraiser, who died from cancer in 2007.

Members of the team are David Watkinson, Catherine Pye, Tom Moseley, Chris Hopper, Alex Willmott, Fran Winrow, Nafeesa Shan, Steve Tinniswood, Paul Cockerton, Neil Docking and sports editor Paul Plunkett – who has been writing a blog about his preparations for the run.

  • Some of the team from the Lancashire Telegraph prepare to take part in the run.
  • Around 2,000 runners will be taking part in the event, which starts and finishes in a park in Blackburn.

The journalists will be wearing yellow T-shirts for the run, supplied by a local company, and have set up a JustGiving page for sponsorship.

On the page, it says: “Some of us will be fast, some of us will be slow, but we will all be doing our best to get a good time and raise money for a fantastic cause.

“So dig deep and make all of our hard work and training worthwhile.”
