Photo editor's bid to quit the smokes for good

A picture editor is blogging about his bid to kick his favourite habit of the past 25 years.

Stuart Wilde, from the Lincolnshire Echo, has launched the online diary to document his battle to quit the demon weed after a quarter of a century as a committed smoker.

The 41-year-old, who candidly admits that he “loves smoking,” has made two previous attempts to give up which both ended in failure.

Now he is using the NHS ‘Phoenix Stop Smoking Service’ to help his mission to break the habit, as well as attending counselling sessions and taking quit-smoking pills.

Wrote Stuart: “The first time I gave up smoking, I lasted 15 months then I went on a two week holiday and I was straight back on the fags.

“The last time I gave up, I only lasted five weeks. I was being so nasty to everybody, that I actually started to annoy myself.

“The trouble is, I love smoking! I love the ceremony of it all; slowly peeling off the clear plastic wrapper, carefully opening the lid so as not to rip the new, pristine packet.

“Gently peeling off the gold foil cover, to reveal 20, white tipped sticks of nicotine-filled loveliness.

“But unless I want a very different kind of ceremony to happen a lot earlier than I’d like, I know I have to stop…..I need to start looking out for myself.”

Stuart has now been off the smokes for a month and is updating his blog on thisislincolnshire.co.uk regularly while writing a weekly column for the Lincolnshire Echo.

Surely a link to the blog would be in order?
