The success of a newspaper’s group on a social networking website has prompted it to offer free classified adverts.
The North West Evening Mail is celebrating reaching the 3,000 ‘friends’ milestone on Facebook by planning to launch a series of reader offers.
In an online launch message, the CN Group daily says: “First up is the chance of a free advert in our classifieds section which would normally cost you £14.60.
“So dig out that pram that’s been clogging up your cupboard or any other household items and you could make some yourself some extra cash. All items must be sold for less than £100.
“This offer is only open to the Evening Mail’s friends on Facebook so if you haven’t joined the gang already log on and send us a friend request.”
Nick Turner, head of digital content development, said: “If it is a success, we are hoping to offer discounts on picture reprints and we’ve discussed with a local restaurant a discount offer on one of their less busy nights.
“It would be a mixture of our services and also linking in with our advertisers.
“We don’t really know a lot about the 3,000 people so in the process of signing up to the offer, they are giving up information about themselves and whether they buy the paper.
“It’s also just trying to have a strong community and increase the bond between the paper and a large group of people.”
