New web development head appointed at titles

A digital journalist has been promoted to manage the websites of two regional dailies and their sister weeklies.

Neil Macdonald has been picked as the new head of web and data development at the Liverpool Echo and the Liverpool Daily Post, along with Trinity Mirror’s weekly newspapers on Merseyside.

He joined the titles ten years ago after working for weekly papers in the North-West and has held a number of roles there, including news reporter, sports writer, sub editor and page designer.

Neil moved to work for the digital team in February 2009 and has been the acting head of web and data development since the departure of Kevin Matthews earlier this year.

He said his new role includes the day to day management of the websites and also the longer-term site development.

Neil said: “Even in the two years since our digital team came together, the industry has evolved at an incredible pace.

“My main aim is to ensure we develop with it by being ambitious in the type of stories we tell and how we tell them, while taking advantage of the new tools and opportunities that seem to appear almost every day.”
