New journalism qualifications under forum spotlight

Journalism lecturers across the country are being invited to a free qualifications forum in the spring.

The event, hosted by the National Council for the Training of Journalists, will discuss progress with the development of its new multimedia structure for journalism qualifications.

Delegates will have the opportunity to examine in detail the proposed syllabus and assessments.

The forum has been organised in response to demand at December’s Journalism Skills Conference for a further event to discuss progress on the new qualifications.

The NCTJ’s chief examiners and exam board members are currently developing the programmes of study and sample assessments which will then be considered by the Journalism Qualifications Board in March and presented at April’s forum.

Delegates will have the chance to put forward their views on the structure and content before any final amendments are made so testing can take place over the summer.

The NCTJ said it was keen to see as many heads of journalism and course leaders as possible at the forum but only one representative per centre would be invited to attend.

Further workshops and seminars are expected to take place later in the year for subject specialists.

The qualifications forum runs from 11am to 3pm on 20 April at Bloomberg, London – for more details and to reserve a place email [email protected] or call 01799 544014.
